9 Signs of True Love From a Man

9 Signs of True Love From a Man

Love is confusing.

It comes with lots of ups and downs.

When Gabriel and I started dating, there were times when everything was perfect.

We couldn’t get enough of each other, it seemed like we were on the same page about most things.

It was clear to me then that he is THE ONE.

But one week later we’d have a fight about something and I’d immediately start asking myself:

“Are we too different? Do we even want the same thing?”

Even in films, true love always comes with a bit of drama.

But being unsure, whether your boyfriend really cares about you or not can be nerve-racking.

These signs can help you distinguish if a man truly loves you.

1. You Can Be Yourself Around Him

True love is about valuing and accepting another person…

Just the way they are.

Like Marc Darcy did in Bridget Jones’s Diary…

If a man truly loves you he’ll value and appreciate your tastes and preferences.

You won’t have to put on a show and pretend you’re smarter…

Or dumber than you really are.

You’ll feel free to tell him your REAL thoughts and opinions.

Your true love will encourage you to express yourself and be your TRUE SELF around him.

2. You Feel Like He Gets You

Having a strong emotional connection with a man is a definite sign of true love.

If you feel like he just gets the way you tick, that he understands what drives you and what you really want in life…

You’ve hit the JACKPOT!

Having this sort of “unspoken understanding” with your guy is a definite sign of having found your soulmate.

And even if this is a barrier, there are quick ways to improve communication in a relationship so that he does get you!

3. He Is Genuinely Interested In You

There are worlds between a guy who’s just a player and a man who actually wants to know you.

A big part of truly loving someone is taking an active interest in who this person really is.

Your true love will want to hear about your past and where you came from.

If your boyfriend truly loves you he’ll be curious about these things and ask you questions.

He’ll want to get to know you better and better…

So that you two can open up and grow even closer.

4. He Can’t Get Enough Of You

When two people love each other, they rarely want to be apart.

If a man truly loves you, he’ll really value and crave your company.

He’ll ask you out on dates, invite you over, come by to your place, etc.

Moreover, once your date is over and you have to split up for a while, he’ll be sure to ask:

“When will we see each other again?”

He’ll want to make plans to see you over and over again.

If a man makes an effort to spend time with you, he definitely cares about you.

And if not, there are tried-and-true ways to remedy that and really make him want you!

5. He Wants You to Be a Part of His Life

The people we choose to surround ourselves with are an important part of our life.

Everybody loves having friends and family.

If a man is your true love, he will want to share every part of his life with you.

This includes introducing you to everyone else that’s important to him.

He will invite you to come to parties and to meet his friends and family.

On top of that, he’ll be eager for you to like them because he’ll want you all to be able to hang out and have fun together.

He’ll want you to share all his precious moments with you.

6. He Cares About Your Happiness

A big part of loving someone is caring about that their well being.

If a man truly loves you, he will make little efforts to make you happy all the time. Some of which might be habits that happy couples tend to have anyway.

There are little proofs of love that I experience in my relationship EVERY DAY.

Like Gabriel cooking things the way I like, even if he considers my methods a total overkill. Or us watching “boring” movies just because I want to see them.

Your guy doesn’t need to make any HUGE gestures to express his true love for you.

LOTS of little efforts done on an everyday basis can be a constant reminder of his love and affection.

If a man is ready to make little sacrifices, to make you happy, that’s definite proof that he really cares about you.

7. You Can Count On Him

True love is about having each other’s back. It’s about supporting each other through thick and thin.

When you’re in a stressful situation or simply stuck with a problem…

You can count on him to be there.

When I was doing my bachelor’s in architecture, Gabriel was happy to jump in and help out.

I was lost in a creative frenzy and he knew I’d be hungry, so he surprised me by coming by with a giant pizza.

He then patiently held my stick models until the glue became fully solid, no matter what hour of the night.

If you can count on your boyfriend to support you when you need him…

It’s a sure sign, he really DOES love you.

And even if you’re not sure you can count on him, there are still ways to build trust in a relationship.

8. He Can’t Keep His Hands off of You

Physical attraction and desire play a huge part in any romantic relationship. We are animals after all, equipped with a strong urge to reproduce….

Our sex drive is not all about making babies or just pleasure though, it’s also an incredibly powerful way of connecting with another person.

A big part of what makes physical touch, kissing, affection and everything else feel SO GOOD is when it’s about breaking barriers and finding ways to feel closer and closer to each other.

A man who is in love can’t stop to look for all sorts of possibilities to feel as close to the object of his desire AS POSSIBLE.

If your guy has a hard time keeping his hand off of you, it’s a sure sign your love is true and that he is really into you.

9. You Feel Good When You’re With Him

They say that no other person can make you happy.

It’s true that no matter how much a man loves you, he’ll never be able to solve ALL your life’s problems.

However, in my experience, true love does make you feel really GOOD.

The experience of feeling seen, understood, appreciated is just something that is extremely pleasant.

Add some physical intimacy to this mix and you’ll have all sorts of happiness hormones coursing through your whole body.

True love is the strongest natural happiness inducing drug on the market…

If you feel good when you’re spending time with your boyfriend it’s a sure sign that he is the special someone and that you have finally found the one.

I hope you’re more clear on what true love is now.

In summary, be sure to watch out for these signs in your relationship:

  1. You Can Be Yourself Around Him
  2. You Feel Like He Gets You
  3. He Is Genuinely Interested In You
  4. He Can’t Get Enough Of You
  5. He Wants You to Be a Part of His Life
  6. He Cares About Your Happiness
  7. You Can Count On Him
  8. He Can’t Keep His Hands off of You
  9. You Feel Good When You’re With Him

Now if you’re already in a serious relationship with a man and for some reason you’re still unclear about whether or not he really loves you, there might be some less obvious reasons driving you to doubt your relationship.

Sometimes it’s not just about the signs of true love from him, but rather that there are things that stand in the way of your connection that can take some deeper work. This is actually why we created the Rebuild Your Relationship course.

This is already a long post by now, but if you have further questions about signs of true love, chances are you’ll find the answers you seek down bellow.

How Do You Know a Man Is Your True Love?

Now it’s all well and good to look out for the signs of true love. But, maybe, even after reading all this, you still aren’t 100% sure whether or not he really is THE ONE for you.

That’s a perfectly normal situation to be in.

The thing about true love is that we have all been brought up with a completely FALSE image of it.

Love stories and fairy tales taught us girls that when we meet our one true love, we’re supposed to know then and there.

That is not only complete BS but also a very unrealistic expectation.

When you just start going out with someone, you generally don’t know that person very well.

How are you then supposed to be able to gauge whether or not you’ll want to spend the rest of your life with this particular man?

That’s right, it’s impossible!

It takes time to get to know somebody, It takes even longer for a person to open up and build trust in a relationship.

The truth is, time will tell whether or not he is your soulmate.

It’s perfectly normal to have doubts about your relationship. Your boyfriend is going to have to prove himself to you. And you’ll have to prove yourself to him. This might take months, or even years.

Only over the course of your relationship can you grow increasingly certain that a man is your one true love.

What Does True Love Really Mean?

So, not only true love is something that gradually develops and deepens between two people as time goes by. There is also another groundbreaking truth about it that most people tend to forget:

True love is not just a chance, it’s a CHOICE.

When you meet someone you appreciate and deeply care about, you then CHOOSE to invest in this relationship. You DECIDE to open up to him and be vulnerable.

True love means making an effort for someone else. It’s about sticking through the tough times. Being ready to put in the work and not letting go and giving up.

Yes, finding your soulmate is about getting together with a person you’re attracted to who is compatible with you.

But more importantly, it’s also about finding someone who is serious, mature, willing to put in the work and wanting to commit to truly loving you.

What is True Love in a Relationship

True love in a relationship is sticking though the rough time and being there for each other. But at the same time, it’s also having a sense of belonging and intimacy. Appreciating your partner and deeply enjoying having them in your life.

Don’t expect things to be perfect.

Even the most compatible of couples will sometimes feel upset and misunderstood. The reality of our relationships is messy.

True love in a relationship is when the good outweighs the bad by a far margin.

That there are far more things that you value and cherish about your partner than the ones you resent them for. And vice versa, they too have far more warm feeling towards you than the not so pleasant ones.

True love in a relationship isn’t one-sided. Both of you care and are willing to invest into making things work. You might not be making the same efforts. For example, one of you might be more diligent in acts of service, while the other is more affectionate and physical. It’s about having a good balance of how much each of you in putting in into making the other one happy.

If you have any questions or would like to add something, let me know in the comments section.

I’d love to hear from you.

How to Use 5 Love Languages to Fix Your Relationship

How to Use 5 Love Languages to Fix Your Relationship

A lot of us dream of finding our one true love: the perfect soulmate who will understand and fulfill all our needs and desires.

Even though some couples start off this way, unfortunately, the reality of most relationships is the complete opposite of the fairy tale.

When Gabriel and I started dating, he really swept me off my feet. It was magical.

But not even a year later I already felt lonely, misunderstood and worried that we will not work out after all.

That’s because in real life…

We had to face lots of problems as a couple.

And often ended up inflicting pain onto each other, mostly unintentionally.

All these hurdles gradually damaged our relationship and caused both of us to start growing apart.

But the 5 Love Languages was a concept that helped us put words to our feelings and gain a better understanding of our problems.

In this article, I’ll explain how we applied it to fix our relationship.

1. What Are The 5 Love Languages

The 5 Love Languages is a book written by a marriage counselor, Dr. Gary Chapman.

It’s based on one simple premise:

Different people with different personalities express love in different ways.

From his couples’ counseling experience, Dr. Chapman deduced 5 main ways in which people express and receive love in relationships:

The 5 Love Languages, these include:

  • Words of Affirmation
  • Acts of Service
  • Receiving Gifts
  • Quality Time
  • Physical Touch

2. Figure out Your Own Preferred Love Languages to Put Words To Your Own Needs

When facing relationship problems, it’s easy to get very caught up in all the fears and feelings.

We often lost track of what we were actually arguing about, to begin with!

That’s why I found the concept of 5 Love Languages to be an incredibly powerful tool.

It helped me to put words to my feelings and classify the things that were important to me in my relationship.

What helped me the most was ordering the 5 Love Languages in a list.

Starting with what was the MOST IMPORTANT to me and ending with the one that matters least.

It looked like this:

  1. Quality Time
  2. Physical Touch
  3. Receiving Gifts
  4. Words of Affirmation
  5. Acts of Service

Gaining this overview of my own preferred Love Languages allowed me to see what things I was getting out of my relationship…

And which ones WERE MISSING for me!

It helped me appreciate certain all of the things I was getting out of our relationship that I did not see so clearly before.

At the same time, It also allowed me to PUT WORDS to my unmet needs.

Gaining an overview of the things that are and aren’t working in your relationships is a necessary first step that will make fixing your relationship a lot easier.

3. Figure out Your Partner’s Preferred Love Languages to Avoid Conflicts

Having an overview of your partner’s needs and preferences is just as important as understanding your own.

You don’t need to resort to guesswork though!

It is best done by explaining the concept to your partner and asking him to make HIS OWN LIST.

This is what Gabriel’s list looked like

  1. Words of Affirmation
  2. Physical Touch
  3. Quality Time
  4. Acts of Service
  5. Receiving Gifts

Putting his Love Languages in order of importance allowed me to see the areas where we had a lot of overlap.

It also made me see where our needs were completely different.

For example, we both valued physical touch and quality time a lot. They were both in the top 3 of our Love Language lists.

However, I listed gifts as my #3 and for Gabriel that one was at the very bottom.

At the same time, Gabriel valued words of affirmation a lot more than I did.

Seeing the differences in you and your partner’s preferred Love Languages will help you identify potential REASONS FOR YOUR CONFLICTS.

In other words, it highlights which of your needs are NOT being met!

And these are the things you probably fight about.

In addition, having an understanding of the issues that cause friction in your relationship is extremely helpful in improving communication and resolving arguments.

4. Notice the Areas in Your Relationship Where You’ve Been Talking Past Each Other

Another important way to fix your relationship with 5 Love Languages is getting better at noticing when your partner is expressing love.

It’s easy to miss things that seem unimportant to you.

But these very things might be a much bigger deal to your partner than they are to you.

And vice versa, you might be expressing your love in ways that your partner is ENTIRELY OBLIVIOUS to.

Being blind to your partner’s efforts at expressing love will make him feel discarded and unappreciated.

Moreover, it will discourage him from making an effort in the long run.

In order to fix your relationship, it’s best to address and make an active effort to notice and appreciate your partner’s efforts at expressing love.

This will encourage him to try harder to meet YOUR NEEDS as well.

5. Use Your Understanding of 5 Love Languages to Communicate Your Own Needs Better

I found the 5 languages vocabulary extremely helpful in expressing what I needed!

Being able to put words to my own needs and feelings made communicating them to Gabriel SO MUCH EASIER.

We still often say things like:

“Can you just give me some WORDS OF AFFIRMATION, I really need to hear I’m doing great”.

Or

“We’ve been so busy lately, I really miss having more QUALITY TIME”

Having the 5 Love Languages vocabulary will allow you to be very clear and specific.

Being able to express your own needs clearly will make it easier for your partner to hear you out.

Conclusion

Fixing a relationship is a complex task.

It’s easy to get lost and overwhelmed by it.

That’s why the 5 Love Languages is a very useful tool because it can create an overview of the problems you are currently facing in your relationship.

Understanding both your own and your partner’s preferred Love Languages will help you understand which areas in your relationship are functioning well and which ones you need to work on.

It will also give you the vocabulary to communicate these things clearly and effectively to your partner.

Things You’ll Need to Say to Him After a Fight to Make It Right Again

Things You’ll Need to Say to Him After a Fight to Make It Right Again

You probably feel terrible after a fight with your man.

There was likely a heated exchange, mean things were said and one of you threw up your arms, finally giving up.

I can’t do this!

Even though you might have both calmed down and moved onto other things the tension remains hanging in the air…

A common course of action at this point is for couples to ignore the tension and pretend as though the fight didn’t happen.

But doing this keeps the problems and your pain UNRESOLVED.

I’m going to cover what you’ll need to say to your man after a fight so that things can be made right again.

These tips will help you settle matters peacefully and try discussing the issues that caused the argument again when you feel ready for it.

1. I’m Sorry. I Don’t Want to Fight

This is a very important thing to say because you’re making it clear to him that ultimately you DON’T WANT to fight.

You want to GET ALONG!

In ‘How To Stop Fighting’ we explained that fights happen because of NEEDS NOT BEING MET.

They’re not started for the hell of it. Nobody enjoys fighting, it’s EXHAUSTING!

It’s really easy to lose track of that though.

Once the fight escalates and both of you start blaming each other about things, it’s very likely that your man ends up feeling attacked.

So saying “I’m sorry. I don’t want to fight” will remind him that even though you argued, what you actually want is to work things out.

2. I Was Really Upset When I Said Those Things

In the heat of the moment, things are often said that we want to take back.

Some of them are simply below the belt.

If you’ve said something that hurt him and was out of line, it’s important to acknowledge it and apologize.

Doing this will have an immediate healing effect for him and will defuse some of the tension that built up.

3. I Heard What You Said, and Will Work on It

If in the argument, he repeatedly complained about something you said or did, DON’T IGNORE IT.

You need to recognize it and let him FEEL that you understand.

For example:

Him: “You always say you’re ready, but then I’m standing there, waiting 45 minutes for you…

You: “I’m sorry I did that, I lost track of time. I’ll make an effort to give myself more time so that you’re not waiting for me.

And like magic, it’ll shut him up.

Because when you acknowledge what he’s said and tell him you’ll work on it, he has no more reason to complain.

You’ve successfully given him what he wanted.

4. What Can We Do to Prevent This in the Future?

When you’re unsure about how to best resolve the problem you’re fighting about, asking this question will help you gain clarity.

You don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. You can just openly discuss possible solutions together.

We recommend thinking of this as a collective brainstorm session:

You’re a team trying to solve a complex problem and need to come up with creative solutions.

Let your thoughts bounce about together.

And if you find it helpful, you can jot them down on some paper.

Give yourselves 15-30 minutes to find a solution you’re both happy with.

There’s no need for it to be perfect, just aim for something that is BETTER than you’re current approach.

You can always modify it in the future.

5. I Need a Timeout, Can We Talk About This Later?

If despite all of your efforts, things are not de-escalating, it’s time for a timeout.

Karolina and I use this when a fight is getting out of control.

When we reach a point where it’s just too much for one or both of us, we say we need a break.

The advantage of this approach is that it lets both of you cool off and collect your thoughts.

Otherwise, you’re pushing for resolution when it’s not there yet.

Once you decide to talk about it again, you’ll both have clearer and calmer heads.

5 Mistakes to Avoid If You Want Him to Trust You

5 Mistakes to Avoid If You Want Him to Trust You

Whether you’re just dating or you’ve been together for years…

Trust is something you can always DEEPEN in your relationship.

Doing so has many benefits, like enhancing your sense of safety, stability, and certainty about your future with him.

There are, however, pitfalls you want to watch out for.

Certain actions (or non-actions) can make him lose trust in you FAST.

You want to watch out for- and AVOID these behaviors so that you can earn and keep his trust.

1. Making Decisions for Him Without His Involvement

If there’s a social event you’ve been invited to, or you’ve received ticket offers to that awesome musical you’ve been wanting to see…

Be sure to check-in with your man as well.

Otherwise, he might feel OVERRUN.

Because if you made the decision without him, it would communicate that he has no decision power and that you didn’t care for his opinion or needs.

So it’s important to ask if he is interested in said event and whether he already has other plans.

He will appreciate and TRUST you more for it.

2. Sweeping the Truth Under the Rug

A definite trust-breaker is not telling the truth or hiding it.

We’ve often heard women talk about making the decision to lie to their partner in order to not hurt his feelings.

Although this train of thought can come from a well-meaning place…

It WILL cause more damage than good.

Generally, sooner than later, secrets come out.

And to make matters worse, when a lie is uncovered, the trust it destroys is NOT ISOLATED to that one incident.

It will most likely reach as far back as the lie itself.

Resulting in him questioning everything that happened between the two of you within that time frame.

The simple reality is…

That telling the truth in relationships is the best way to prevent a trust-breaking ordeal.

Even when it’s difficult.

3. Sharing Things With Others That He Told You in Confidence

You’ve probably experienced your man being secretive and distant about his feelings.

He’s likely doing it to protect himself from being hurt.

Because in his world different rules apply to his vulnerability. He’s probably been shamed and judged in some of the following ways:

  • You’re always acting like a girl when it comes to this!
  • Stop crying and just get over it already!
  • Why are you getting emotional about this?
  • You’re too sensitive, man up!

For these reasons, he’ll guard his feelings very closely.

But If you have gained your man’s trust and he shares something vulnerable with you…

I recommend NOT SHARING it with anybody else.

If you do, I guarantee it will shatter any trust you’ve built with him and you’ll need to rebuild it ALL OVER before he shares himself with you again.

If you’re in a situation where sharing his story feels beneficial and relevant, be sure to ask him whether it’s okay FIRST.

Doing this will actually INCREASE HIS TRUST in you.

4. Having Ulterior Motives and Not Being Upfront

I once had a friend who always hid her true motives and was really manipulative.

She used men quite shamelessly…

But she repeatedly had the experience of them abandoning her. She used to say:

Why do men ALWAYS abandon me?! I’m just being honest.

I know, it’s ironic, but she did ACTUALLY perceive herself that way.

Looking back, she likely had reasons for not daring to be upfront, but whatever they might have been, nobody ever found out.

The point though is that men initially trusted her, but when they realized she was playing them…

That trust DISSOLVED in an instant and *Poof* they left her.

Getting what you want with ulterior motives might initially get you somewhere, but it’s guaranteed to backfire when you want to build trust.

5. Reminding Him About Everything You’ve Done for Him

Nothing puts a man on guard, like finding out his woman has been keeping an open tab of all the favors she’s done for him.

Don’t get me wrong.

There’s nothing bad in WANTING something in return for your efforts. That’s often the nature of things, we give in hopes of being reciprocated.

But making DEMANDS based on past favors will be perceived as downright manipulative.

Karolina and I like to give things freely to each other and in ADDITION, we communicate our needs OPENLY.

This way we can receive what we’re giving each other without wondering whether there’s any fine print attached.

At the same time, we can TRUST that the other will communicate their needs.

If you like, you can use these 3 communication hacks to practice this.

In summary, try to avoid the following behaviors:

  • Making decisions without his involvement
  • Sweeping the truth under the rug
  • Sharing things with others that he told you in confidence
  • Having ulterior motives than what you present
  • Keeping a list of all the favors you’ve done for him

By just avoiding these, you’re putting yourself in a really good position and he will TRUST and RESPECT you much more.

7 Amazing Benefits Cuddling Couples Have in Their Relationship

7 Amazing Benefits Cuddling Couples Have in Their Relationship

There are many things in this world, I can live without.

But cuddling is NOT one of them.

Karolina and I are waaay to attached to cuddling.

And that’s no surprise, given all the amazing BENEFITS of cuddling!

It’s all thanks to oxytocin, a hormone that creates all sorts of positive feelings for the two of you when you cuddle.

Here are the 7 ways that cuddling couples win!

1. Cuddling Builds Trust Between Couples

There are many great ways you can build trust in your relationship.

And Karolina and I stand behind everything we teach.

But the simple act of cuddling with your partner is a great additional HACK for trust-building.

How crazy is that?

You can literally lie there and “Do nothing.” and the magic between the two of you just happens.

2. It Improves Your Moods & Reduces Depression

Depression and mood swings are not as uncommon as you might think.

Sure we put on a brave face for the world.

But behind closed doors, an estimated 16.2 million adults (6.7%) in the United States have AT LEAST one major depressive episode in a year.

And honestly, judging by our circle of friends and work colleagues, we believe the number to be higher.

Not everybody knows they have depression and many that do don’t seek help!

But in the past when we were down or feeling depressed, we would just cuddle and it always made us feel BETTER afterward.

3. It Can Help You Sleep Better

Are any insomniacs reading this?

Well, there’s good news for you here too.

Oxytocin can help you relax and let your mind turn off more. Just cuddle up and let the hormones do the work.

A little tip: You can try resting your head against your partners. It can intensify the feelings of connection and safety and help you relax better.

4. Cuddling Decreases Your Fear

Wait, there’s more??

You betcha, it’s like a miracle drug isn’t it?

Since the hormone increases feelings of bonding, it also makes you feel safe.

Thereby reducing your sense of fear and danger.

So cuddle up close, sink your claws in and don’t ever let each other go. 😉

5. You Might Feel More Generous

You know when you’re having a really good day and it’s finally all going your way?

Chances are, in those moments you’re in a much better mood.

So much so, you might be feeling more kind and generous.

Well, guess what?

Cuddling up with your loved one can create the same experience.

So don’t be surprised to find yourself feeling charitable or eager to help out.

6. It Can Help You Recover After Negative Experiences

We see children do it all the time.

When they’ve hurt themselves or something bad happens to them, they run back to their parents crying.

Because they need to be consoled and hugged at that moment.

So that they can FEEL SAFE again.

As adults, our behavior matures, but our NEEDS remain the same.

So don’t feel bad about wanting to run back into your partners safe and warm arms when things go badly.

You can tell them you need to cuddle to recover again and replenish your batteries.

7. Cuddling Intensifies Feelings Of Attachment

It might seem strange to say, given that Karolina and I are running this blog together now.

But like a lot of men, there was a time I was caught up in being distant and detached for secret reasons.

Over the years (with lots of cuddling) things have changed.

Now I’M the one chasing Karolina for opportunities to snuggle because I like the way it makes me feel…

Conclusion

So in summary, cuddle and cuddle A LOT with your partner because it benefits you in so many ways:

  1. It builds trust between you
  2. It improves your moods & reduces depression
  3. It can help you sleep better
  4. It decreases your fear
  5. It can make you more generous
  6. It can help you recover after negative experiences
  7. It intensifies feelings of attachment

If you’d like to share your thoughts or experiences about cuddling, let us know in the comments section and we’ll get back to you!

How to Give Him Space the Right Way – 5 Powerful Tips

How to Give Him Space the Right Way – 5 Powerful Tips

When a man starts to withdraw or pull away, a lot of women often start to panic and try to immediately do whatever they can to reel him back in.

I get it… I used to react exactly the same way…

Having someone you can’t get enough of suddenly asking you for space or to be alone, it feels WRONG!

When we first started dating Gabriel used to “Need space.” A LOT.

Because of that, he’d stop texting and we wouldn’t see each other for a couple of days.

It was horrible.

Back then I always tried playing it off as cool but deep down I always felt rejected and alone.

Now, 10 years later, we HARDLY EVER need space from each other.

Looking back at all those times in our past when Gabriel needed space… I can now see very clearly why he was acting the way he was.

Moreover, I can see the same patterns with all of my girlfriends with their boyfriends or even husbands!

I’m going to share with you the three surprising truths I learned about why men suddenly pull away and give you tips on what you can do to actually bring them closer.

1. The Real Reasons He Is Pulling Away, Have Nothing to Do With You

When a guy says “I need some space” any girl’s default reaction is to…

Blame herself and feel like SHE must have done something WRONG!

But the reality is, it’s often a sign of the complete opposite.

A lot of men are AFRAID of BEING ATTACHED!

Chances are you and your man are getting CLOSER and his defensive walls are beginning to CRACK.

But he isn’t ready to fully let you in yet!

So he suddenly needs to spend some time apart so that he can get those walls back up.

This is something most men aren’t aware of.

They’re not doing it out of spite or trying to intentionally reject you.

It’s just that they don’t trust you enough yet and are afraid of being hurt.

Another big reason why men pull away at the beginning of a relationship is when they’re not doing well and are trying to hide it.

When two people start dating, they generally always try to only show their BEST SIDE to their new partner.

Additionally, there is a lot of pressure on men to always act strong and pretend to have it all figured out.

But everybody feels down every now and then.

And men DON’T have it all figured out.

Chances are your guy doesn’t want to show you when he is not doing well because he is afraid of being judged or rejected.

So he decides to simply WAIT for the bad mood to pass before seeing you again.

Regardless of what his exact reasons are for suddenly pulling away, most likely they have nothing to do with you.

So don’t go blaming yourself here.

2. Avoid the Common Mistakes That Make Men Even More Distant

I know from my own experience that a man suddenly pulling away awakens this SUPER-STRONG urge to try to desperately cling onto him.

Elegant, I know.

Unfortunately, following that urge will most likely make your boyfriend even MORE DISTANT.

It’s important to respect his need for space.

Don’t try to violate it by constantly texting him or finding excuses to pop by his place.

Trying to force a man to let you in, when he doesn’t feel ready for it, will only make him PULL AWAY MORE.

No one likes to be controlled. These kinds of behaviors can even drive men away for good.

3. Bring Him Closer By Providing The Space He Needs

I know, it’s hard to resist that urge to try to cling onto your boyfriend, even though he said he needed space.

I used to try all sorts of tricks to try to lure Gabriel back in.

Once I even baked blueberry muffins especially for him.

He still didn’t want to come over, but I DIDN’T INSIST and ended up eating them with a friend.

I decided to save him one though and he actually came by one the next day and said it was very delicious.

It’s tricky, but trying to trick or force a man into opening up will do more damage than good.

Because there are often reasons he’s being distant towards you that even he’s not aware of!

On the other hand, patience and acceptance of where they’re at are going to bring them CLOSER FASTER.

4. Distract Yourself and Make Him a Bit Jealous

The best way how to give him space is for you to distract yourself with somethings else. Meet up with friends, pick up a hobby, start working out etc., possibilities are endless.

Having something to do will take your mind off of him.

You’re not going to be just sitting around, obsessing over what he is doing and wondering if it’s ok to text him yet.

There is an additional benefit to following this tip. You having a life of your own, your own friends and interests will inevitably make him at least a bit jealous.

Which in turn will motivate him to need less space. Because, he’ll have to come out of his shell to fend off any potential competition.

5. Win Back His Trust by Being There for Him

Last but no least, when giving space women tend to do it backwards. I’ve made this mistake myself, countless times too. Whenever Gabriel would start pulling away, I’d need him to reassure me and show me that he cared.

It’s ok to ask for reassurance in a relationship. But when a guy is struggling with something, he will not have room for you and what you need from him.

This is the very reason why he might be asking for space in the first place!

Because he just can’t cope with things at the moment.

This is why the best way how to give your boyfriend space in these kinds of situations is by not needing anything from him but being there for him instead.

Listen to him, validate his complains, be nice and understanding. Bring him food. Don’t judge him. Don’t ask for answers, don’t pressure him to get his life together.

Be kind and patient towards him and his walls will drop in record time.

How Much Space Should You Give Him

How long you should give him space strongly depends on your individual preferences and also on the stage of your relationship.

Some people need more space than others. But generally speaking, the longer you are together, the shorter you have to wait before getting back in touch with him.

For example, in our first year of being together, when Gabriel said he needed space, I typically waited a couple of days, up to a week, before texting him.

We weren’t living together yet and our lives were still very independent of each other, so I really could just go about my life without any major problems.

Now, on the other hand, we live together, work together, our relationship evolved and so have our rules for space. When Gabriel says he needs space now, he typically means something between 30 minutes up to an hour.

There are no fixed rules here.

Exactly how long you should wait for also depends on the circumstances and his reasons for needing space in the first place.

We actually have another article that covers this in quite a bit of detail: How Long Should a Break In a Relationship Last

Can There Be Too Much Space in a Relationship

Knowing how to give a man a healthy amount of space can be tricky.

You don’t want to appear desperate, needy and push him further away. But at the same time, you also don’t want to seem distant and make him feel like you don’t care.

As mentioned, the biggest mistake women make when it comes to space is being clingy.

The second-biggest mistake is giving more space than what he asked for.

So take care to dose it carefully, so that he doesn’t feel like you’re disinterested.

Another challenge here is evaluating where he is really at.

Are you giving him space to figure out what he wants, or is this just his excuse for stringing you along?

It’s a complex topic and there are many factors to consider. But there are two things that can really guide through this mess and help you know how much space to give him: your gut and your heart.

If something feels off, don’t ignore it. At the same time, if a man is demanding more space than you can bear to give, tell him that.

When a man truly cares about you, he will take you into consideration and will make room for your needs too.

Conclusion

When a guy suddenly voices the need to have some space, it’s easy to get carried away and panic.

That’s why it’s important to remember: this is most likely not your fault.

Him needing space probably has NOTHING to do with you.

Don’t try to trick or force him into opening up.

That will only make him withdraw even further.

Do your best to accept and respect where he is at and he will come back to you sooner than you imagine.

Now when it comes to guys asking for space in relationships there are often reasons that go beyond a recent event that caused it.

Sometimes there are underlying issues that you (and sometimes even your boyfriend or husband) are utterly unaware of -that are causing a need for space and addressing these issues is the only way to actually solve the problem.

This is what we dig into, in our Rebuild Your Relationship Course. Here we talk about the reasons men distance themselves and sometimes even bunker themselves in and what to do to get them back out and have them reconnect with you instead.

I know how difficult this can be because I had the same struggle with Gabriel (my boyfriend who runs the blog with me). It took a long time before I finally figured out what I was doing wrong (things that were continuously pushing him away) and what I needed to do to solve this!

Now, he not only never needs space, he actively seeks me out and talks to me when there’s a problem so that we can figure it out together.
